Electrical Engineer – Control & Automation Systems

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join NOV Africa’s team in Port Elizabeth. The role focuses on designing, planning and developing electrical control and automation systems for rig equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and NOV engineering requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and review PLC control cabinets, field instrumentation interfaces and associated control systems.
• Create electrical drawings, schematics, termination diagrams, interconnect and cabling documentation, and generate Bills of Materials.
• Select appropriate electrical and instrumentation components and ensure they meet project specifications.
• Support manufacturing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in design reviews, ensure documentation compliance and manage design changes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Mechatronics.
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing electrical and instrumentation control systems.
• Proven experience with PLC control cabinets and field instrumentation interfaces.
• Ability to work with internal and external customers to interpret project requirements.
