District Engineer (Coastal) – Electricity Distribution

About the role

The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is looking for a qualified District Engineer (Coastal) to lead electricity distribution operations across the coastal district. The role involves planning network operations, managing outages, and overseeing sub‑station infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate all electrical network operations and scheduled outages.
• Manage electrical sub‑station infrastructure, high‑voltage protection systems and metering.
• Ensure compliance with wiring legislation, regulations and standards.
• Oversee investigations of incidents and accidents related to the electrical network.
• Implement occupational health and safety requirements in line with the OHS Act.
• Control financial operational budgets and ensure proper expenditure controls.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and registration with ECSA, or N6 in Electrical Engineering with a passed Electrical Trade test and a Wireman’s licence.
• Computer literate.
• Valid code B/EB driver’s licence.
• Minimum five years’ experience in an electrical distribution environment, including at least two years in a management position.
