Design Manager – Engineering Projects

About the role

The Design Manager will lead multi‑disciplinary engineering and design activities for mineral processing projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and environmental standards. Reporting to the General Manager Engineering, you will coordinate teams to deliver high‑quality designs on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate interdisciplinary technical aspects of engineering, design, and drafting.
• Monitor progress of the design team, provide feedback and support.
• Report design status to the project management team.
• Allocate resources to meet deliverables within budgeted man‑hours.
• Approve, guide and review engineering calculations and design development.
• Ensure adherence to design procedures, change management and safety‑in‑design principles.
• Mentor engineers‑in‑training and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 15+ years of experience in mineral processing, preferably gold.
• Professional registration with ECSA (or equivalent) – non‑negotiable.
• South African citizen or permanent resident, based in Cape Town.
• High attention to detail and strong technical ability across multiple disciplines.
