Deputy Head: Academics

About the role

Inspired Education is a group of premium private schools, and Reddam House Waterfall is one of its campuses in Johannesburg, catering to students from Stage 1 to Grade 12 and affiliated with the IEB. The Deputy Head: Academics leads the college with a holistic view of students and staff, promotes the well-being of students and teachers through strong pastoral support, creates a positive learning environment, carries out the duties of a subject teacher and sits on the campus management team.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor standards across faculties and drive continuous improvement in student outcomes
• Implement policies and strategies that maintain a high standard of academics
• Collaborate with counsellors, teachers and parents to give students appropriate academic support
• Train and support staff on best teaching practices and behaviour management
• Serve on the Executive Management Team, contributing to strategic leadership while upholding safeguarding, student welfare, health and safety
• Use assessment, reporting and performance data to inform decisions, monitor progress and support targeted interventions
• Work closely with the Deputy Head of Pastoral
• Take part in interviews for new staff and help mentor them

Required profile

• University qualification
• Certified teaching status
• SACE accreditation
• Experience leading a team; 3-5 years in a management role is advantageous
• High emotional intelligence, approachable and caring towards students, parents and colleagues
• Ability to handle conflict professionally while upholding school policies
• Commitment to student and staff development, excellent organisational skills and a positive attitude to change
