Dean of Faculty of Education (5-year Fixed-Term)

About the role

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) seeks an experienced academic leader to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Education for a five‑year fixed‑term, performance‑based contract. The Dean will provide strategic vision, ethical governance, and student‑centred leadership to advance teaching, research, and community impact across the Faculty’s two campuses, Mowbray and Wellington.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Faculty’s academic and research agenda, ensuring alignment with CPUT’s Vision 2030 and strategic plan.
• Oversee undergraduate, postgraduate, and further education programmes in teacher education, science, mathematics, early‑childhood development, language, policy, educational technology, and inclusive education.
• Manage and develop the Global Institute for Teacher Education and Society and two NRF Research Chairs.
• Foster partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders to enhance the Faculty’s impact.
• Ensure high standards of ethics, integrity, and accountability throughout the Faculty.

Required profile

• Established academic leader with a full Professor or Associate Professor rank.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement and research leadership in education.
• Strong commitment to student‑centred learning and community service.
• Strategic, visionary mindset with the ability to drive transformation and innovation.

Required skills

• Leadership and governance of higher‑education institutions.
• Strategic planning and performance‑based management.
• Experience in managing research entities and academic programmes.
