Data Engineer

About the role

Join the Client Engagement Delivery team at Capitec Bank, where you will help build and maintain the data foundation that powers client engagement and campaign activities. You will design data assets and pipelines that deliver trusted data to Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Data360, enabling targeted, data‑driven campaigns across multiple channels.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust, scalable data systems that meet enterprise‑wide requirements.
• Analyse business and system requirements to enhance data platforms at scale.
• Drive architectural decisions and provide input to the Data Architect for new and existing data flows.
• Lead the design and development of complex applications and data pipelines.
• Maintain data infrastructure reliability across heterogeneous systems.
• Mentor less‑experienced engineers and raise engineering standards across the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology (minimum); Honours Degree preferred.
• 8–10 years of data engineering experience with a proven track record of leading large‑scale projects.

Required skills

• Expert‑level SQL (query optimisation, tuning, indexing).
• Advanced Python for data processing.
• Deep knowledge of AWS data services and architecture.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Hadoop and similar big‑data tools.
• Design and implementation of data lakes, data warehouses and data governance frameworks.
• CI/CD pipeline creation, Kubernetes orchestration and containerised data solutions using IaC.
• GitOps strategies, feature flags and multi‑environment deployment.
• Enterprise workflow orchestration tools.
