Back-End Software Engineer – Android Payments

About the role

As a Level II Software Engineer in the Payments Technology team, you will own the full lifecycle of card‑machine software, from concept and design through development, testing, deployment and ongoing operation. You will create native Android applications for POS devices and the server‑side services that power them, ensuring real‑time, high‑volume transaction processing.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance native Android applications running on POS devices.
• Build and maintain server‑side components, APIs and services that handle authorization, settlement and reporting for every transaction.
• Integrate hardware peripherals such as card readers, NFC and PIN pads via AIDL/IPC.
• Implement EMV protocol handling and ISO 8583 messaging, guaranteeing reliability, performance and transaction integrity.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education; preferably a tertiary qualification in Information Technology.
• 3+ years proven experience in software development covering native Android (Java/Kotlin) and back‑end development.
• Hands‑on commercial experience with EMV (contact or contactless) and ISO 8583 financial messaging.
• Experience integrating Android hardware peripherals and building transactional APIs.
