CSSD Assistant – Sterilisation & Linen Support

About the role

A vacancy exists for a CSSD Assistant at Life Bay View Hospital in Johannesburg, reporting to the Theatre Unit Manager. The role ensures proper packing and sterilisation of instrument sets and linen packs for theatres and doctors’ rooms, complying with infection‑control standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare instrument sets and linen packs according to company standards.
• Apply sterile indicators and operate autoclaves to achieve maximum steam penetration.
• Conduct daily checks on linen levels and ensure sufficient stock.
• Perform chemical, biological and mechanical checks on sterilisation equipment and document results.
• Maintain and service heat‑sealing machines, clean washers and flash autoclaves in line with legislative requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 National Senior Certificate.
• CSSD experience and training in a private hospital setting.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work flexible hours.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments and cleaning processes.
• Awareness of safety protocols and adherence to safe loading/unloading of autoclaves.

Required skills

• Operation of autoclaves and flash autoclave equipment.
• Maintenance of heat‑sealing machines and clean washers.
• Handling and packing of medical instrument sets.
• Understanding of medical terminology related to sterilisation.
