Control and Automation Technician

About the role

The Control and Automation Technician will ensure reliable operation of plant automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VSDs, and instrumentation. You will support optimisation projects, maintain system integrity, and ensure compliance with engineering and SHEQ standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VSDs, servo systems, industrial PCs and related control infrastructure.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis on repeat failures and implement corrective actions.
• Perform routine backups, version control and disaster‑recovery testing for all automation assets.
• Execute the plant instrumentation calibration programme and keep calibration records audit‑ready.
• Update P&IDs, electrical schematics, control panel designs and network diagrams.
• Identify critical spares, monitor system health and support asset‑management activities.
• Provide technical input for plant projects, FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience maintaining PLC, HMI, SCADA, VSD and instrumentation systems in an industrial environment.
• Knowledge of industrial control protocols such as Profibus, Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
• Ability to conduct root‑cause analysis, risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
• Familiarity with calibration procedures, documentation standards and change‑control processes.
• Experience supporting plant upgrades, FAT, SAT and commissioning.
