Construction Manager – High Voltage Projects

About the role

Eskom is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead high‑voltage transmission and substation projects in Richards Bay. The successful candidate will drive on‑site activities, ensure safety and quality, and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and manage all on‑site construction activities for high‑voltage transmission and distribution projects.
• Plan and oversee daily site operations, allocating labour, equipment, materials and subcontractors efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with Eskom/NTCSA specifications, ORHVS requirements, SHEQ standards and relevant legislation.
• Supervise site teams, subcontractors and suppliers, reviewing schedules and monitoring progress.
• Coordinate outages, switching operations, permits and access with Eskom and other stakeholders.
• Conduct regular site inspections, quality audits and progress assessments.
• Promote a strong safety culture and enforce SHEQ policies, risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Identify, assess and mitigate construction risks, resolving technical and contractual challenges.
• Review and approve method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs) and related documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager on high‑voltage transmission or substation projects.
• Valid ORHVS certification.
• Strong knowledge of SHEQ standards and South African construction legislation.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage subcontractors.
• Excellent communication skills for liaison with project managers, engineers, clients and regulators.
