Communications Manager I

About the role

The Communications Manager I will lead internal communications across FirstRand’s pan‑African operations, ensuring employees are informed, aligned and engaged with the group’s strategy, values and culture. This role blends strategic planning with hands‑on execution to translate business priorities into clear, human‑focused messaging.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own the internal communications strategy aligned with organisational priorities, brand positioning and people strategy.
• Create integrated communication plans for key initiatives, change programmes, leadership priorities and rewards efforts.
• Manage all employee communications for the Broader Africa CEO and senior executives, ensuring consistent tone and narrative.
• Act as a trusted advisor to executives on internal messaging and engagement approaches.
• Drive employee engagement initiatives that build belonging and pride.
• Provide marketing and communication support to Enablement Functions across the Broader Africa space.
• Efficiently roll out group communications and disseminate relevant messages from FirstRand, FNB and related entities.
• Support basic creative and design tasks to enhance internal communications.

Required profile

• Proven experience in internal communications, employee engagement or related fields.
• Strong leadership capabilities and maturity to interact with C‑suite and all organisational levels.
• Ability to translate complex business strategy into clear, credible internal messaging.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for tone and narrative.

Required skills

• Basic creative/design experience.
