Communications and Events Manager

About the role

The KOKO Group is looking for an innovative, daring and uncompromising Communications and Events Manager in Durban, South Africa. The role leads communications, events, experiences and the development of the agency, while managing and delivering productivity savings across its portfolio. It sits within the Communications team and works closely with executive management.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute virtual and in-person events, trade shows and conferences with African and global participants from media, government officials and industry leaders.
• Plan and execute corporate communications projects across a wide range of topics.
• Coordinate event scheduling and logistics, including contract negotiations, guest lists, venue preparation, travel, security, catering, entertainment, equipment and decor.
• Act as liaison between the team and senior executives, government officials and industry leaders during planning and at events.
• Prepare agendas and briefing materials for internal stakeholders and develop event materials for external stakeholders such as media and government officials.
• Maintain and build a database of industry contacts, vendors and venues.
• Support the Corporate Communications team with media outreach, media relations and media appointments.

Required profile

• University degree in a numeric discipline; marketing or another related discipline preferred but not essential.
• 5-10 years of experience in an agency focused on events planning and organisation, events sponsorship and key media assets.
• Experience with African and international brands preferred but not essential.

Required skills

• Expert-level agency analytics to identify and optimise investment strategies and plans to connect with consumers.
• Expert-level ability to use financial rigour to prioritise and allocate resources effectively.
• Expert-level ability to measure the financial and equity impact of investments and institutionalise learnings.
