About the role
We are seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join a niche short‑term insurance company in Pretoria. The role involves managing the full underwriting cycle for general commercial lines, from initial submission through policy issuance.
Key responsibilities
- Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements for commercial lines, ensuring accurate pricing and risk assessment.
- Maintain compliance with company guidelines, delegated authorities and regulatory requirements.
- Manage broker relationships, responding to queries promptly and professionally.
- Keep detailed policy records and documentation throughout the policy lifecycle.
- Liaise with claims teams up to the pre‑payment stage to ensure smooth hand‑over.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of underwriting procedures.
Required profile
- Minimum five years’ experience underwriting commercial lines.
- Professional qualifications RE1 and RE5.
- Proven experience working in a UMA or a similar end‑to‑end underwriting environment.
Required skills
- Proficiency with a Underwriting Management Application (UMA).
