CNC Milling Operator

About the role

Our client, a well‑established precision engineering company located in the Strand/Helderberg area of Cape Town, is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Operator to join their workshop team. The role is hands‑on, focusing on operating CNC milling machines to produce accurate components from existing programs and engineering drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, load and unload raw materials and secure workpieces in CNC milling machines.
• Run existing CNC programs safely, monitor the machining process and perform tool changes as needed.
• Inspect components during and after machining using precision measuring equipment to ensure dimensions and tolerances are met.
• Identify and report tool wear, tooling problems or program issues to the programmer or supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area and adhere to health‑and‑safety procedures.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience operating CNC milling machines in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, job cards and machining instructions.
• Experience checking dimensions and tolerances with precision measuring tools.
• Attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset.

Required skills

• Operation of CNC milling machines (Fanuc experience advantageous).
• Use of verniers, micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges and dial indicators.
• Identification of tool wear or damaged tooling.
• Reading engineering drawings and specifications.
