Clinical Nurse Specialist – Emergency (12‑Month Contract)

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist – Emergency provides leadership within the Emergency Department at Netcare Unitas Hospital. This 12‑month position focuses on advanced clinical practice, teaching, and research to enhance patient care and staff development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high‑quality patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Mentor and educate staff at all levels, including orientation and continuing education programs.
• Serve as a resource on Emergency Nursing issues and best practices.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate new policies and procedures.
• Participate in committees related to quality improvement and risk management.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational needs of patients and families.
• Identify service delivery gaps and devise strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent; registered with the South African Nursing Council (NQF level 7).
• 12‑month Post‑Basic Emergency qualification.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Emergency Department operations and emerging trends.
• Experience working with children and their families.
