Chef – Hospital Catering

About the role

The Hospital Chef will report to the Catering Manager at Life Groenkloof Hospital. You will be responsible for preparing and delivering high‑quality meals for staff and supporting the overall catering operations within a healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and prepare staff meals and other food services.
• Cook and oversee the preparation of staff meals, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Coordinate and manage the staff dining room.
• Assist with kitchen control systems, stock management and inventory.
• Perform food‑service duties in line with health, safety and infection‑prevention standards.
• Support main kitchen duties and internal/external functions as required.
• Comply with Qpro / Aspirata audit requirements and any additional catering duties assigned by the Unit Manager.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education; a catering qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in hospital or similar catering services.
• Knowledge of infection control, health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work shifts according to hospital operational needs.
• Independent, hardworking, honest and able to handle pressure with a positive attitude.
• Strong teamwork, leadership, ethical behaviour and customer responsiveness.

Required skills

• Catering qualification (or equivalent).
• Food safety and infection‑control knowledge.
• Understanding of health‑and‑safety procedures in a healthcare setting.
