Buyer's Assistant – Retail Operations

About the role

Takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a proactive Buyer’s Assistant to support its Retail team in Cape Town. You will work closely with the Divisional Buying Manager to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations across the buying and merchandising functions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide administrative support for order processing and buying plans.
• Audit product availability, selection and pricing of best‑sellers and new releases on the website.
• Conduct merchandising checks, including customer reviews, links and newsletters.
• Manage customer queries, escalating issues when required.
• Oversee stock‑level monitoring, order processing, stock classification and catalogue queries.
• Resolve stock‑quality disputes and handle ad‑hoc issues related to products, deliveries and retail operations.
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive category success.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Science, Commerce or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 1 year of retail or e‑commerce experience.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication, and a proactive, solutions‑oriented attitude.
• Ability to prioritise tasks, adapt quickly to new systems and work independently.

• Microsoft Excel (advanced).
