About the role

A recruiter representing a client is hiring an experienced Fashion Accessories Buyer / Category Manager based in Cape Town. The role drives category growth through trend-led product development, strategic sourcing and commercially focused buying, and sits at management level.

Key responsibilities

• Trend and market intelligence: identify emerging trends, analyse competitors and turn market insights into product opportunities.
• Range development and buying: build on-trend product assortments aligned with client briefs, market demand and business objectives.
• Commercial performance: grow sales, margins and profitability through selling, range trading, pricing, promotions and stock management.
• Supplier management: build partnerships, negotiate pricing and ensure quality, lead times and specifications meet requirements.
• Client relationship management: present ranges, review products, negotiate and engage key accounts as their product partner.
• Category strategy: find growth opportunities and optimise product mix.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or diploma.
• Solid retail or wholesale fashion accessories buying and category management experience.
• Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage pricing, margins and profitability.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
• Strong critical path management skills to meet target delivery dates.
