Business Development Manager - Southern Africa Corridor

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa, part of AGL, is looking for a Business Development Manager for its Southern Africa Corridor. The company has more than 50 years of experience and offers end-to-end freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution for multinational companies. The role is based in Johannesburg, is full time and permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Acquire new clients through prospecting, client interface, proposals and estimates, and achieve the specified sales targets for the Southern Africa Corridor.
• Implement new business and build long-term client relationships across the four corridors (Durban / Dar es Salaam / Beira / Walvis Bay).
• Work with the Durban corridor development team and other commercial teams along the corridors.
• Develop corridor business and mining/project business in Southern Africa, and build a business pipeline.
• Assist with tender completion and submission, with support from the London bid team and two estimators.
• Submit quotations and build a rates master template for the four corridors.
• Promote AGL corridor services such as Chingola HUB, WHC/Zalawi and port warehouses.
• Formulate strategies to win new business and increase market share.
• Produce weekly and monthly reports internally and to clients, manage the CRM system (Concerto) and liaise with product heads to secure the best rates and service.

Required profile

• Matric certificate is essential.
• Previous clearing and forwarding sales experience preferred.
• 5 years or more of proven sales track record preferred.
• Previous formal sales training preferred.
• Well-presented, professional person with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to negotiate, read and interpret financial information (budgets, financial statements, P&L), and work in a target-driven, pressured environment.
