Business Development Manager - Retail

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead and grow a national sales function within the household, kitchenware and retail supply industry. The role combines strategic planning, customer engagement and team development to drive revenue growth across South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop the sales team to achieve individual and team targets.
• Develop and implement sales strategies to increase revenue, market share and profitability.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key retail, wholesale and reseller customers.
• Identify and secure new business opportunities while expanding existing accounts.
• Negotiate pricing, promotions and commercial agreements.
• Monitor sales performance, analyse market trends and prepare regular reports.
• Set sales budgets, forecasts and KPIs, ensuring targets are met.
• Conduct regular sales meetings, performance reviews and field visits.
• Collaborate with procurement, operations, marketing and finance to ensure product availability and excellent service.
• Drive new product launches and support promotional campaigns.
• Resolve escalated customer issues and maintain high satisfaction levels.
• Travel nationally to visit customers, support the team and identify growth opportunities.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Sales, Business Management, Marketing or a related field (preferred).
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to travel nationally as required.
• 5–10 years of sales experience, including at least 3 years in a sales management role.
