Audit Technical Assistant Manager - Professional Practice Group

About the role

EY's Africa Professional Practice Group is hiring an Audit Technical Assistant Manager (also called Manager / Assistant Manager, Audit Technical). The role provides technical support on International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) and the EY Global Audit Methodology (GAM) to audit teams mainly in South Africa and across Africa. It suits specialists in audit technical and also offers a path toward the audit business.

Key responsibilities

• Provide ad-hoc technical support on methodology, auditor reporting, EY policy, Companies Act issues, reportable irregularities, NOCLAR and other audit technical matters, seeking guidance from senior team members when needed.
• Act as a Subject Matter Resource (SMR) supporting the consultation process so that submissions to an Approver are complete, well researched and documented.
• Help partners and managers apply complex risk management policies and procedures to resolve risk matters.
• Support technical Senior Managers on urgent technical matters and manage smaller technical projects from start to finish.
• Help develop training material, enablers, forms, templates, guidance, communications and policy updates, and present in-person and Skype-based training.
• Assist with responses to internal quality inspection findings, external inspections and root cause analysis.
• Coach peers and juniors on technical matters and build relationships within Assurance and across other services.
• (Optional) Take on client-serving responsibilities, and act as an ambassador of EY with regulators and clients, including on SAICA and IRBA committees if appropriate.

Required profile

• CA(SA) qualification.
• For the manager position: 1-3 years of post-articles experience in an auditing environment; for the assistant manager position: 0-2 years post-articles or completed articles.
• Advantageous to have held a part-time or full-time audit technical role in an audit firm.

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of current auditing techniques and of ISAs, SAAPS and the Auditing Professions Act.
• Detailed understanding of risk-based auditing and risk and control strategies.
• Familiarity with IFRS and understanding of Quality & Risk Management procedures.
