Audit Senior

About the role

Our client, a reputable accounting, tax and auditing firm based in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town, is seeking an Audit Senior to join their dynamic team. The role involves leading external audit engagements from start to finish while ensuring high‑quality deliverables.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and execute external audits, taking ownership of a portfolio of engagements.
• Prepare audit planning documentation, risk assessments and audit programmes.
• Perform and review audit working papers, obtaining sufficient appropriate audit evidence.
• Conduct substantive and analytical procedures across revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, equity, debtors, creditors, cash and taxation.
• Test internal controls where applicable and document findings.
• Identify audit risks, accounting issues and control weaknesses and communicate them to management.
• Prepare or assist with the preparation of financial statements arising from audit work.
• Ensure audit files meet quality and compliance standards, clear review notes and resolve outstanding matters.
• Communicate directly with clients regarding audit requirements, outstanding information and findings.
• Manage audit deadlines and budgets, supervising junior staff and providing guidance.
• Assist with complex accounting and auditing matters and escalate issues requiring senior input.

Required profile

• BCom/BAcc degree in Accounting, Auditing or a related field.
• Minimum three years of external audit experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of auditing and financial reporting.
• Professional qualification not required, but studying towards one is advantageous.
• Bilingual – fluent in English and Afrikaans.

Required skills

• CaseWare or similar audit software (advantageous).
• Microsoft Excel.
• General accounting software.
