Audit & Performance Management Committee Member (4 positions)

About the role

Ngqushwa Local Municipality is seeking independent, suitably qualified individuals to serve as members of its Audit & Performance Management Committee for a three‑year term. The committee provides independent advisory support to the Municipal Council and Management on financial reporting, governance and service delivery oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Council, Accounting Officer and Management on internal audit, financial controls and accounting policies.
• Assess risk management frameworks and the reliability of financial reporting.
• Review performance management processes and evaluate municipal performance.
• Examine annual financial statements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to issues raised by the Auditor‑General and conduct investigations into municipal financial affairs as requested.
• Participate in a minimum of four committee meetings per financial year and provide recommendations on effective governance.

Required profile

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Auditing, Risk Management, Law, Information Technology or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in auditing, risk management, law, IT or general municipal management.
• Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., accounting, auditing, law) is an advantage.
• Demonstrated integrity, honesty, sound professional reputation and strong analytical judgment.
• Broad knowledge of local government finance and the Municipal Finance Management Act.
• Previous experience serving on a local government audit committee or similar oversight role is desirable.
