About the role
The Department of The Premier, Western Cape Government seeks a qualified Assistant Director to lead the management of human resource records across eleven departmental units. This senior position ensures that all employee records are stored securely, accessed appropriately, tracked accurately, and disposed of lawfully in line with legislation.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee secure storage and safekeeping of HR records for all departments.
- Control and monitor access to personnel files, ensuring only authorised personnel can retrieve information.
- Maintain comprehensive tracking systems for record lifecycle management.
- Coordinate lawful disposal of records in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Ensure full legislative compliance with data protection and records‑management laws.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to record handling and confidentiality.
Required profile
- Relevant qualification in records management, information governance, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing HR or personnel records in a large organisation.
- Strong understanding of South African records legislation and privacy regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑departmental initiatives and manage risk.
Required skills
- Knowledge of records‑management best practices and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with secure document storage solutions and disposal procedures.
- Ability to develop and enforce access‑control policies.
