Assistant Director: Employee Health and Wellness

About the role

The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director to lead employee health and wellness programmes across most provincial departments. Based in Cape Town’s Central Business District, the role focuses on designing, implementing and evaluating initiatives that promote physical, mental and social well‑being for government staff.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive employee health and wellness strategy aligned with provincial objectives.
• Coordinate wellness activities, campaigns and services with internal stakeholders and external providers.
• Monitor programme performance, collect data and produce regular reports for senior management.
• Manage programme budgets, contracts and procurement processes.
• Provide guidance and training to department heads on best practices in employee well‑being.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in health promotion, occupational health, human resources or a related field.
• Proven experience in designing and delivering employee wellness programmes, preferably in the public sector.
• Strong understanding of government structures and procurement regulations.
• Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
