Assets Administrator (Fixed-Term Contract)

About the role

The Assets Administrator will support the Finance Division of the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) by verifying and maintaining the fixed‑asset register across multiple locations. This is a six‑month fixed‑term position based at the Head Office in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the physical verification of fixed assets across various divisions and locations.
• Tag and label assets in line with Scheme policy.
• Update the fixed‑asset register with verified information such as location, condition, custodian and asset number.
• Contribute to the preparation and consolidation of quarterly asset verification reports.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with GEMS’ document management and retention policies.
• Support the Finance Controller in planning and implementing fixed‑asset related projects.
• Apply accounting principles and standards (IFRS, GRAP) during asset verification.
• Provide support for general ledger operations, including journal postings and ledger balancing.

Required profile

• National Certificate/Diploma in Accounting or a related field (NQF Level 5).
• 1–2 years of experience in a finance environment.
• Prior exposure to asset management, inventory or finance administration is advantageous.
• Experience using accounting or asset‑management systems is a plus.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IFRS and GRAP accounting standards.
• Familiarity with asset management systems.
• Understanding of accounting systems and general ledger operations.
