Artisan Fitter – Maintenance

About the role

The Artisan Fitter is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment in an industrial plant environment. The role focuses on safety, reliability and timely resolution of breakdowns to support continuous production.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and assess risk exposures, apply mitigation measures and comply with SHEQ requirements.
• Perform fault‑finding, regular plant inspections and both low‑level and high‑level mechanical repairs.
• Execute unplanned interventions: isolation, lock‑out/tag‑out, rapid breakdown response and root‑cause data capture.
• Manage rotable items – create PM orders, reservations, damage tagging and transport to storage.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklifts for load handling and mobile equipment maintenance.
• Maintain low and high voltage electrical equipment and perform mechanical/electrical isolation.
• Use the Integrated Management System (IMS) and SAP to log notifications and confirm task completion.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / N3 with a Fitter Trade Test qualification.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an Artisan Fitter in an industrial setting.
• Willingness to work standby, overtime and to travel to plant sites.
• Basic welding knowledge, own tools and personal transport.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance and fault‑finding.
• Plant inspection and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Rotable management and documentation.
• Overhead crane and forklift operation.
• Low and high voltage electrical maintenance.
• Mechanical/electrical isolation.
• Proficiency with IMS, SAP and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with pelletising plants, hydraulic systems and furnace equipment.
