Afrikaans FAL Teacher for Grades 6-7

About the role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated educator to teach Afrikaans as a First Additional Language (FAL) to learners in Grades 6 and 7 at an independent school in South Africa. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality instruction, foster a supportive classroom environment, and contribute to the academic and personal growth of students.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Afrikaans FAL lessons for Grade 6 and 7 in line with the CAPS curriculum.
• Create engaging, differentiated lesson plans that address diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Assess, monitor and report on learner progress, maintaining accurate records of assessments, attendance and performance.
• Promote a classroom atmosphere that encourages participation, confidence and academic achievement.
• Build positive relationships with learners, parents and colleagues.
• Participate in staff meetings, parent engagements, school functions and extracurricular activities as required.
• Uphold the school’s values, policies and standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) qualification.
• Current and valid South African Council for Educators (SACE) registration.
• Preferably 4+ years of experience teaching Afrikaans FAL.
• Sound knowledge of the CAPS curriculum and ability to teach across the Intermediate and Senior Phases.
• Strong classroom management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisational, administrative and time‑management abilities.

• Competency in using educational technology and digital learning platforms.
