Accountant – Expenditure (Sasolburg)

About the role

The Municipality of Metsimaholo is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage expenditure functions in its Sasolburg office. The role involves overseeing financial processes, ensuring compliance with municipal legislation, and supporting budgeting and reporting activities.

Key responsibilities

• Authorize payment claims, distinguish between capital and operational expenditure, and process employee subsidies.
• Review and approve salary reconciliations, creditor reconciliations, and authorize creditor payments.
• Prepare income and expenditure forecasts, compile monthly VAT returns, and produce financial reports.
• Interact with internal and external auditors, providing required documentation and support.

Required profile

• BCom degree with financial accounting as a major.
• 5‑8 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of local government legislation such as MSA and MFMA (advantageous).

Required skills

• Strong financial accounting and reporting capabilities.
• Proficiency in applying financial policies and procedures.

What we offer

• Salary range: R 416 050.70 – R 470 942.79 per annum (post level 05), subject to job evaluation.
