Accountant Credit Control and Indigent

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Assistant Financial Officer (Revenue) in reviewing and developing revenue‑related policies.
• Control credit and enforce credit‑control policies and by‑laws.
• Manage general administration within the credit‑control division.
• Support implementation of the Property Rates Act.
• Update and implement all council‑related income policies.
• Check payment levels and ensure compliance with credit‑control regulations.
• Train and supervise credit‑control personnel.
• Collect debts owed to the municipality.
• Report income issues to the Assistant Financial Officer.
• Oversee customer‑care functions.
• Record and balance municipal income in the financial system and maintain necessary registers.
• Respond to audit enquiries on income and credit‑control matters.
• Attend relevant meetings and work sessions.

Required profile

• Matric, degree or diploma in Accounting, Economics, Cost Accounting or Local Government Finance.
• Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively at all levels.
• Three to five years of middle‑management experience.
• Knowledge of local‑government legislation, policies and by‑laws.
• Skill in reporting, monitoring and planning.
• Understanding of municipal revenue management and Treasury regulations, including practice notes.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is an added advantage.
