Ward Clerk

About the role

A vacancy exists for a Ward Clerk in the Medical unit at Life Eugene Marais Hospital, reporting to the Unit Manager. The role supports the nursing team through inter‑departmental liaison, communication and administrative assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct basic secretarial duties and capture data such as labour hours, overtime and night duties.
• Control stock, manage billing and book agency staff for the theatre.
• Ensure optimal service levels, meet targets and execute non‑nursing activities efficiently.
• Attend meetings and in‑service training as scheduled.
• Maintain a safe environment by following safety standards, emergency plans and protocols.
• Handle patient documentation correctly to eliminate legal risks.
• Provide friendly client service while upholding professional secrecy and discretion.

Required profile

• Grade 12 National Senior Certificate.
• Secretarial Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• 2–3 years of general administrative experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Healthcare experience is advantageous.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• General computer literacy.
