Trainee Sales Representative - NPC Concrete, Durban

About the role

NPC Concrete, part of the Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. Group, is offering a 12-month fixed-term position as Trainee Sales Representative at its Durban Plant. The role gives structured, practical exposure to customer relationship management, sales processes, product knowledge, market development and general sales operations, and suits someone wanting to build a career in sales within the concrete and cement industry.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with safety, health, environment and compliance requirements, protect company and customer information and keep confidentiality where required.
• Assist the sales team with day-to-day sales activities, accompany sales representatives on customer visits, answer customer enquiries and give product and service information.
• Maintain accurate customer records, support regular customer contact and follow-ups.
• Help identify new customers and opportunities, carry out basic market and competitor research, visit ready-mix concrete customers, contractors and builders, and support sales promotions and campaigns.
• Build a sound understanding of NPC Concrete's products, their applications and selling points, and share product information professionally with customers.
• Capture and update information in company systems, prepare customer visit reports and give regular feedback to the supervisor on customer interactions and market observations.
• Take part in training programmes, apply what is learned in practice and accept coaching and feedback.
• Work effectively with the sales team and other departments and build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Matric; a diploma or degree in Sales, Marketing, Commerce or a related field is an advantage.
• Previous sales experience is an advantage.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport; willingness to travel when required.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
• Core competencies: customer focus, communication, interpersonal skills, learning agility, sales orientation, teamwork, problem-solving, planning and organising, time management and attention to detail.
