Toolmaker & Technical Draughtsman – Precision Engineering

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Toolmaker/Technical Draughtsman to join our precision engineering team. You will turn detailed designs into functional tooling, supporting product development and manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing solutions based on production requirements.
• Set up and operate conventional milling machines and lathes to manufacture and modify tooling components.
• Support toolroom activities, including tool maintenance, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and update technical and manufacturing drawings.
• Assist with product development, reverse engineering, and prototype activities.
• Liaise with production teams to ensure tooling performs efficiently and meets quality standards.
• Perform measurements and inspections to verify dimensional accuracy and tolerance compliance.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in toolmaking, machining, or a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
• Toolmaker Trade Test preferred; mechanical drafting or related qualification advantageous.
• South African residency or valid work permit.

Required skills

• Operating conventional milling machines and lathes.
• Manual machining equipment proficiency.
• Use of precision measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, and height gauges.
• Toolmaking and fixture fabrication.
• Technical drawing interpretation.
• Exposure to CNC machining environments (advantageous).
