Test Automation Engineer III

About the role

Capitec, South Africa's largest bank by client base, is looking for a senior Test Automation Engineer III in Stellenbosch. The role advances native mobile app automation across complex product environments, shapes scalable automation solutions, guides best practice and mentors others without direct reports. It also involves using sound judgement on when manual testing adds more value than automation.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, version control and reporting
• Build web, API and service-level automation for complex and event-driven systems
• Set coding standards, review automation code and improve framework performance and reliability
• Track automation coverage and use results to identify systemic quality risks
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and represent automation in technical forums

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• 5-8 years of hands-on automation testing experience, including designing automation frameworks at scale
• Proven native mobile app automation experience across iOS and Android
• Strong Appium experience in production-grade environments
• Experience with cloud device farms such as BrowserStack
• Clear criminal and credit record

Required skills

• Appium, WebdriverIO and Playwright for native mobile, web and API testing
• CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, version control and reporting
• Databases, event-driven environments, test data management and containerised testing
• Ability to design automation frameworks and strategy from scratch
