Test Automation Engineer II

About the role

Capitec is growing its credit team and needs someone who owns test quality, not just test execution. The Nexus Credit team covers term loans, credit cards, access facilities, payday management and the data science models behind credit decisions. It is split between Stellenbosch and Sandton, and half the team is already distributed.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run end-to-end automated test suites that give the team confidence before anything ships
• Own test coverage across credit product flows, from origination and account management to behavioural and data-driven processes
• Write and maintain service stubs and mocks so testing can happen independently of live systems
• Query and validate data using SQL, making sure the right outcomes land in the right places
• Track, report and communicate test results, surfacing risks early
• Support and guide less experienced engineers as the team grows

Required profile

• Grade 12 National Certificate
• A relevant tertiary qualification (preferred: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Information Technology)
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in test automation
• Clear criminal and credit record

Required skills

• Solid working knowledge of Playwright or transferable tools such as Selenium
• JavaScript / Node.js for test automation (primary language)
• SQL fundamentals, including PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server
• Familiarity with test management, QA practices, reporting and defect tracking
• Understanding of SDLCs, APIs and system integration
• Advantageous: service stubbing/mocking with Node.js, Kafka, event-driven architecture, AWS, or credit/financial services exposure
