Technical Sales Consultant - Gate Automation & Access Control

About the role

A well-established South African manufacturer of gate automation and access control products is looking for a Technical Sales Consultant to look after and grow its installer network across Cape Town and the wider Western Cape. Although the title sounds like a sales role, it is actually a technical account management position: there is no quoting, invoicing or selling to a target. You will build long-term relationships with an established base of installers and help them get the most from the full product and service range.

Key responsibilities

• Use the provided customer lists, data and systems to plan your territory, book your own meetings and visit customers in person, including those not visited for some time.
• Help installers with installation queries, diagnostics and escalations on site, providing hands-on troubleshooting support.
• Pass unresolved issues to the internal technical support and product quality teams.
• Deliver product training in the field and act as an ambassador for the brand.
• Log every interaction in the CRM and submit weekly reports on site visits, installer feedback, market trends and competitor activity.
• Be supported by a central control room team that coordinates bookings, claims and day-to-day operations for consultants across the country.

Required profile

• Matric (a copy of the certificate will be requested).
• Technical diploma or N4 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering is advantageous.
• At least 3 years in a technical sales, field support or field technician role, preferably in access automation or electronic security.
• Hands-on experience with gate motors, garage door operators, access control, intercoms or related products is advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence, own reliable vehicle and willingness to travel regularly throughout the region.
• Fluent English; Sotho, Afrikaans or isiXhosa is advantageous.

Required skills

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
• Comfortable using CRM and ticketing systems.
• Stable internet connection for VoIP, remote meetings and CRM use.
