Tech Officer – Junior Customer Engineer (Field Services)

About the role

The Junior Customer Engineer in the Field Services unit provides routine hardware servicing and remote diagnostic support under close supervision. The role ensures contract service levels are met for clients by installing, maintaining and troubleshooting hardware and software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the configuration management system and CMDB using appropriate operating systems, hardware tools and documentation.
• Perform full range of tasks for operating, controlling, installing and removing hardware and software on client sites.
• Execute installation and removal plans according to detailed instructions, tracking components to ensure compliance.
• Provide remote support to fellow technicians using tools such as Remedy and customer software packages.
• Drive service level agreements (SLAs) to meet agreed performance targets.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 National Diploma (NQF 4) or equivalent.
• At least 2 years experience installing and servicing hardware solutions in a retail environment.
• Valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and ability to travel locally.
• Willingness to work extended or long hours as required.

Required skills

• Microsoft Systems Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
• Linux certifications – LPIC‑1, LPIC‑2, or CompTIA Linux+.
• Experience with hardware installation and configuration.
• Familiarity with Remedy remote support tool and CMDB management.
