Student Liaison Officer

About the role

Goldfields TVET is recruiting a permanent Student Liaison Officer for its Tosa campus. The post provides welfare support to students by acting as a link between them and the various stakeholders involved in their care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide welfare support to students by liaising between students and stakeholders
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports
• Assist students as needed and help with academic support plans for identified students
• Attend to student accommodation needs and promote physical and mental wellness
• Guide students toward better decisions and performance, and raise awareness of HIV/AIDS among students
• Address socio-economic issues, including substance use, and promote regular attendance while monitoring the attendance register
• Conduct home visits and counsel students, staff and families to identify causes of low attendance, and run absence-reduction programmes

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NCV Level 4
• Recognised National Diploma or degree in social science, psychology or education, or equivalent
• 2-3 years' experience in student support services, education, teaching and learning or a related field
• Proven knowledge of public sector and TVET environments, and of psychology practice
• Knowledge of the Public Service Act, Regulations, PFMA, Treasury Regulations and Batho Pele principles
• Valid driver's licence; willingness to travel and work extra hours

Required skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Problem-solving, planning, organisation and report writing
• Good computer literacy (MS Word and Excel)
