Student Accommodation Handyman

About the role

A student accommodation provider in Observatory, Cape Town is looking for a handyman to handle general building maintenance and repairs. The position is advertised by FS Personnel Recruitment Services and is full time.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general building maintenance and repairs, and complete maintenance work orders with accurate records.
• Inspect and maintain lighting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems, and conduct routine inspections of buildings, equipment and facilities.
• Attend to tenant maintenance requests promptly and assist with tenant installations, move-ins and minor alterations.
• Monitor and report maintenance defects, and carry out preventative maintenance on generators, pumps and water systems.
• Keep buildings, grounds and common areas clean, safe and well maintained, and inspect fire and emergency equipment.
• Monitor stock levels of maintenance materials, consumables and tools, and assist with special maintenance projects.
• Maintain good relationships with tenants and staff, and attend to emergency maintenance when required.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years' building maintenance experience.
• Basic knowledge of maintenance procedures and safety protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Computer literacy.
• Grade 12; additional training in maintenance infrastructure management is advantageous.

Required skills

• Plumbing and electrical maintenance.
• Reading blueprints.

What we offer

• Salary of R13 000 to R15 000 gross per month.
