South Africa Bank Treasurer

About the role

The South Africa Bank Treasurer is accountable for the strategic stewardship of the South African banking entity balance sheet, integrating liquidity, funding, capital, HQLA portfolio management, banking book interest rate risk and ALM earnings management. The role is the budget owner for the ZAR and USD ALM positions, steers them within approved risk appetite, limits and mandates, and reports into the Group Treasurer.

Key responsibilities

• Own the ZAR and USD ALM budgets and performance, steer interest rate and liquidity positions, optimise net interest income and advise ALCO on balance sheet strategy
• Oversee IRRBB, including repricing, basis and optionality risks, using forecasts, scenarios and stress tests
• Advise on liquidity and funding strategy in normal and stressed conditions, set funding mix, tenor and cost, and coordinate funding and hedging with Global Markets
• Manage the HQLA portfolio, including asset allocation, duration, issuer concentration and investment governance
• Act as senior Treasury adviser to business and executive leadership, engage regulators such as the Prudential Authority and the South African Reserve Bank, and lead a specialist Treasury team
• Maintain policies, controls and governance frameworks, ensure compliance, oversee data quality and reporting, and escalate material risks

Required profile

• Significant senior experience in bank treasury, ALM, liquidity, funding, capital or balance sheet management
• Proven leadership of specialist teams and engagement with regulators, governance committees and senior executives
• Preferred: Master's degree in Business, Commerce and Management Studies; CA(SA), CFA or equivalent is advantageous

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of South African interest rate, money market and foreign exchange markets
• Expertise in HQLA, ALM, liquidity, funding and IRRBB
• Understanding of capital, RWA, transfer pricing and balance sheet economics
• Executive communication, stakeholder management and people leadership
