Shift Artisan – Maintenance Technician

About the role

A leading manufacturing organisation in Cape Town is seeking a skilled, hands‑on Shift Artisan to join its maintenance team. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability, availability and safe operation of production equipment through preventative and breakdown maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
• Attend to breakdowns and equipment failures to minimise production downtime.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults.
• Conduct fault‑finding and identify root causes of recurring equipment failures.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of machinery.
• Complete maintenance reports, job cards and relevant documentation.
• Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, repairs and preventative activities.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures.

Required profile

• Trade Test / Red Seal qualification – Millwright, Fitter & Turner, Electrician or relevant Artisan trade.
• 3–5 years’ post‑trade experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding abilities.
• Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems (advantageous).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical/mechanical diagrams.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
