Senior System Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a Senior System Administrator to lead the design, implementation and support of our Microsoft‑based infrastructure in Johannesburg. The role demands deep expertise in Windows Server environments, virtualization and network security, and the ability to work under pressure while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage software patching, uptime monitoring and provide tier‑1/2 support for critical systems.
• Design, deploy and maintain IT infrastructure, including data‑center hardware, virtualization platforms (VMWare, Hyper‑V) and Windows Server services.
• Configure and manage networking components such as switches, VLANs, VPNs, Cisco routers and VOIP solutions.
• Implement and oversee security measures, including firewalls (Checkpoint NGX/SBA), Symantec Endpoint Protection and backup solutions (Veritas NetBackup, Enterprise Vault).

Required profile

• Minimum 6‑8 years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, IIS and SQL Server.
• Proven experience (≥6 years) with virtualization technologies (VMWare, Hyper‑V) and data‑center operations.
• Strong networking background (≥6 years) covering switches, VLANs, VPNs and Cisco equipment.
• Relevant certifications such as MCSE, MCSD, MCSA, MCITP, VCP6‑DCV; MCDBA is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and work effectively within a team.
