Senior Staff Nurse – Infection Unit (Band 6)

About the role

The Infection Unit is seeking a proactive and friendly Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6) to join the senior nursing team on Ward 111. This 12‑hour shift role supports the Senior Charge Nurse in day‑to‑day leadership and management of a 26‑bed ward caring for patients with acute and chronic infections.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Charge Nurse with ward leadership, staffing and patient flow.
• Deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse as required, ensuring continuity of care.
• Deliver high‑quality nursing care to patients with infectious conditions.
• Participate in education, audit and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to infection control standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current NMC (or equivalent) registration.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Willingness to engage in personal development and contribute to teaching and audit.
• Experience in infection units, general medicine or Band 6 roles is advantageous but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and nursing interventions for infectious diseases.
• Proficiency in using hospital information systems for patient records.
