Senior SA Automation Specialist (z/OS)

As a Senior SA Automation Specialist, you will design, implement and support enterprise automation and workload scheduling solutions in large-scale mainframe environments, optimising operational efficiency, reducing manual intervention and keeping batch processing stable. You will work with cross-functional operations and infrastructure teams.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and support enterprise mainframe automation platforms and workload scheduling environments.
• Develop, refine and maintain complex automation scripts (REXX/JCL) and automated scheduling workflows.
• Design, implement and test automated monitoring and system recovery procedures to maximise service availability.
• Establish and enforce workload scheduling standards and best practices across production environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve high-priority production scheduling, batch processing and automation incidents.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to optimise system processes and reduce manual intervention.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity testing.
• Maintain documentation for automation architectures, procedures and operational standards.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe operations, systems programming or mainframe batch scheduling.
• 3+ years managing enterprise automation solutions in mission-critical production environments.
• Proven track record in production troubleshooting, incident resolution and disaster recovery testing.
• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent hands-on technical experience.

Required skills

• z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, REXX and JES2/JES3.
• IBM System Automation SA z/OS, NetView and IBM Workload Scheduler / TWS.
• Broadcom/CA tools such as AutoSys, CA OPS/MVS, CA 7 or CA Workload Automation.
• Preferred: automation framework design, event-driven monitoring, DevOps, ITSM tools, mainframe product certifications and experience leading automation modernisation projects.
