Senior Quantity Surveyor – Mining (Johannesburg)

About the role
Our client, a leading international mining house, is seeking a Senior Professional Quantity Surveyor on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to provide commercial leadership for a major mining EPCM project based in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The role reports to the Contracts Manager and Project Controls Manager and involves occasional travel to the project site in Zimbabwe.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Quantity Surveying function across major project activities.
- Develop and maintain cost plans, budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and cost‑control systems.
- Monitor project expenditure, commitments and forecasts against approved budgets.
- Measure and value engineering and construction works; review contractor payment applications and certify valuations.
- Administer EPC, EPCM, engineering and construction contracts, including registers, variations and claims.
- Evaluate compensation events, extension of time claims and contractual entitlements.
- Prepare commercial tender documentation and support tender evaluations and negotiations.
- Support Project Controls through cost reporting, forecasting and earned‑value analysis.
- Identify commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure governance, compliance and audit readiness throughout the project lifecycle.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s Degree or BTech in Quantity Surveying.
- Professional registration as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) with SACQSP or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years’ Quantity Surveying and commercial management experience, including at least 5 years in a senior role.
- Extensive experience on mining projects, mineral processing plants, EPCM and heavy industrial construction.
- Strong background in cost management, contract administration and claims management.
- Experience with FIDIC contracts; familiarity with NEC, JBCC or EPC/EPCM contracts is advantageous.
- Previous exposure to integrated Project Controls environments and African projects, especially Zimbabwe, is a plus.
