Senior Project Manager - Automation Projects

About the role

Rockwell Automation is hiring a Senior Project Manager in Johannesburg to lead large, complex automation and digital transformation projects across the Africa region. As the main point of accountability for project delivery, the role covers planning, execution, control and closeout, ensuring customer satisfaction, financial performance, schedule adherence and risk management. The position sits within the Africa Project Management organization and involves control systems, industrial automation, digital transformation and software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple large-scale projects from order receipt through final customer acceptance.
• Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts and resource plans.
• Manage project financial performance, including revenue recognition, margins, billing milestones, cash flow and change management.
• Identify, assess and mitigate project risks and resolve issues effectively.
• Build strong customer relationships and act as the primary escalation point for project matters.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, subcontractors and commissioning teams.
• Ensure compliance with project management methodologies, governance and quality standards.
• Lead project reviews, status reporting, executive communications and customer steering committee meetings.
• Manage contracts and commercial obligations, mentor junior project managers and support continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business or a related discipline.
• 8-10 years of experience managing complex industrial automation, controls or engineering projects.
• Experience with high-value projects and direct work with customers and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally and legal authorization to work in the country of employment.
• Preferred: PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent certification; experience with PlantPAx, SCADA, MES, information solutions or digital transformation projects; knowledge of Rockwell Automation products and processes; experience with EPC, mining, manufacturing, oil and gas or process industries; Master's degree or MBA; experience coaching project managers.
