Maintenance Coordinator

About the role

Aeroton is looking for a Maintenance Coordinator in Johannesburg. The role manages and executes the company's preventative and breakdown maintenance, with a direct and hands-on approach to all maintenance tasks, and also manages the in-house machine shop and its production workload. It also assists with small in-house fabrication projects to improve efficiency and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Manage preventative and breakdown maintenance within the company
• Take part hands-on in all maintenance and fabrication tasks
• Operate machine shop equipment such as CNC lathes, manual lathes and milling machines
• Manage machine shop employees, workload and equipment, and champion efficiency improvements
• Handle small designs and fabrications and assist with small internal projects such as new equipment installations
• Train machine shop employees and manage external contractors on site
• Take disciplinary action when required, conduct internal reviews and investigations, and collaborate with other departments to minimise machine downtime
• Use the business ERP system for machine shop updates, build strong internal relationships, and ensure compliance with company policies
• Provide temporary assistance in other departments and help with other tasks as needed

Required profile

• Fitter, Turner, Tool and Die Maker or similar trade qualification
• English literate (able to read and write)
• Good physical health
• Valid driver's licence and own transport

Required skills

• Understanding of light industrial and engineering workshop machinery (grinders, winding machines, milling machines, lathes, bending machines, pedestal drills)
• Strong technical and practical maintenance abilities, very hands-on
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• General computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Organised, detail-oriented, proactive problem solver
