Senior Operator - Gold and Biometallurgy

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company with over 2,500 laboratories, is hiring a Senior Operator for its Gold and Biometallurgy division. The role covers routine and non-routine analytical tests, sample preparation and testwork, and duties may also fall within other parts of the Metallurgy division.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine tests following established procedures, or modify procedures to complete assigned tasks.
• Complete tasks within the allocated time and plan work so that service goals are met.
• Report infringements or non-compliances by other laboratory staff regarding allocated work, punctuality or other misdemeanours to the metallurgist.
• Interpret and perform calculations on testwork, including reagent usage, and calculate reagent dosages for gold tests based on sample mass and volume.
• Set up and conduct testwork independently and carry out all associated sample preparation.
• Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system and assist in cyanidation and diagnostic testwork.
• Manage production and operations safely, follow health and safety regulations, and stop using equipment or entering hazardous environments without proper knowledge and protection.
• Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations, possible improvements or non-conformities occur, and report hazards or environmental risks to higher authorities.

Required profile

• Matric (Senior Certificate); higher education is an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the relevant field.
• Willingness to work extended shifts when needed.
