About the role

Greif, a global leader in performance packaging, is hiring a Senior Millwright in Cosmo, South Africa. The role covers troubleshooting, repair and rebuild of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, instrumentation and controls work, preventive and predictive maintenance, and reliability improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair and rebuild electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment to restore safe and reliable operation.
• Perform instrumentation and controls work, including installation, calibration, configuration and loop checks of sensors, transmitters, analyzers, valves and related devices.
• Diagnose PLC/HMI/drive issues at the I/O and device level, isolate faults using schematics, P&IDs and ladder logic, and implement corrective actions or partner with controls specialists.
• Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance (vibration, infrared, oil analysis, ultrasound) and turn findings into work orders that reduce unplanned downtime.
• Run root cause analyses of recurring failures and recommend reliability improvements such as design changes, condition monitoring routes and spare-part strategies.
• Plan and prioritise work orders, decide whether to repair, replace or upgrade, and coordinate with operations for equipment access and safe startup.
• Maintain as-found/as-left records, update CMMS histories and asset hierarchies, and request critical spares with technical input to MRO inventory and service contracts.
• Read and update electrical schematics, P&IDs and single-line diagrams, and suggest design improvements for maintainability.
• Partner with production, engineering, quality and EHS on safe work practices such as lockout/tagout.
• Mentor colleagues, share troubleshooting best practices and may lead small maintenance tasks or contractor activities on shift.

Required profile

• High School diploma (or equivalent).
• 4 or more years of experience.
• Strong commitment to safety and compliance with electrical and mechanical safety standards and regulatory codes.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor peers and coordinate with vendors and contractors.

Required skills

• Advanced troubleshooting across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and instrumentation/control systems.
• Proficiency in instrumentation calibration, loop checks and documentation; familiarity with common industrial devices and communication protocols.
• Ability to interpret and update schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs; working knowledge of PLC, HMI and drive diagnostics.
• Experience using a CMMS to schedule work, track histories and analyse failure data; understanding of MTBF and MTTR.
• Predictive and preventive maintenance methods (vibration, infrared, oil analysis, ultrasound).
