Maintenance Millwright

About the role

Greif, a global performance packaging company, is hiring a Maintenance Millwright in Cosmo, South Africa. The millwright maintains and repairs mechanical and electromechanical equipment in the plant, works with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime, and takes part in safety, compliance and continuous improvement activities.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, motors, valves, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Diagnose faults and repair mechanical and basic electrical systems in line with engineering standards and OEM specifications
• Install, align and commission machinery, and perform vibration checks, alignment and condition monitoring
• Perform breakdown analysis on breakdowns exceeding 15 minutes and maintain hand tools and toolboxes
• Record maintenance work, inspections and parts usage in the CMMS or maintenance schedules, and assist with root cause analysis of recurring breakdowns
• Work with production, engineering and other maintenance staff, and give technical support to apprentices, assistants or operators
• Follow safety procedures: occupational health and safety act compliance, LOTOTO, permit-to-work, confined space and working-at-heights procedures, reporting unsafe conditions and defects, and performing statutory inspections

Required profile

• Recognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)
• Matric, NQF Level 5 with a focus on electrical
• Minimum 1-5 years' post-trade experience in a manufacturing, processing or industrial environment
• Minimum 2 years' experience solving hydraulic and pneumatic system faults, and 3 years' experience in mechanical and electrical fault finding
• Basic training in hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics and blow moulding
• Physically fit for manual and technical work, able to work at heights, in confined spaces and around moving machinery
• Willingness to work shifts, standby, overtime and callouts

Required skills

• Hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, AC and DC motor connections and testing, start delta wiring, panel wiring from drawings
• PLC input/output signal testing, control circuit testing of pressure, linear transducers and proportional valves
• Basic arc welding, drilling, tapping, bending, pressing, cutting
• Breakdown analysis, conveyor maintenance, temperature control circuits
